Distance Learning 3/18/20
Dear Parents,
Assalam U Alaikum, We hope this letter finds you in the best of health and imaan. Alhamdulillah, we are excited to inform you that we will being Distance Learning (online learning) on Monday, March 23rd, 2020. We will be using multiple tools, apps, and software to enhance student learning. Since, this transition has never been done before, we ask our parents for their support, help, and patience. There will be a trial and error period, where we will collect input and adjust accordingly.
Pre-k to 3rd Grade-
· Teachers will be using emailing, Remind, and creating WhatsApp class groups where they can interact with students directly. They will be providing their class with their number through Remind. Some teachers will be using their personal numbers, thus DO NOT share their number with anyone. Please make sure WhatsApp is downloaded on your device.
· They will be using the Zoom software to do live sessions. Students must attend the live lessons as they will not be recorded for later viewing. Also, during the live session, students will be able to interact with the teacher through the chat option. The teacher will inform them ahead of time when a live session will be scheduled and provide them with a link through email, Remind, and WhatsApp messages.
· Instructions on how to access a Zoom meeting will be provided.
· Some teachers might choose to create Youtube videos. If they do so, they will send you a link on Remind, email, and/or WhatsApp to access.
· Teachers will create worksheets and activities that will be sent through Remind, WhatsApp, email, and/or posted on their Weebly. Students must complete and submit them according to the due date provide by the teacher.
· Communication: Updated emails and Remind codes were sent earlier this week.
· Supplement tools and programs will also be used such as Khan Academy, Scholastic, etc. We are leaving the decision of which supplemental tools to be used up to the discretion of the classroom teachers.
· 3rd grade will also be using Google Classroom. Please refer to the information below.
4th to 8th grade-
· Teachers will be using Google Classrooms as their main source of communication and instruction. Activities and assignments will be posted and must be completed through Google Classrooms. Important links and communication will also be posted there.
· In order to set up Google Classrooms, students must first set up Google Accounts using email addresses provided by the school. Teachers will send each student their email and password. Teachers will be scheduling a Live Instructional Workshop through Zoom or sending helpful links/videos to help students set up accounts.
· They will be using the Zoom App to do live lessons. Students must attend the live lessons as they will not be recorded for later viewing. Also, during the live session, students will be able to interact with the teacher through the chat option. Teachers will inform you ahead of time when a live session will be scheduled and provide you with a link through Remind or Google Classrooms.

Attendance:
· Students must attend all Zoom Meeting and submit work on their due dates. These meetings are live, thus if the student misses it, he/she will lose valuable instruction time. Attendance will be collected through participation in the sessions and/or submission of work.
· If a student completes only a partial amount of work for the day or does not attend each Zoom meeting on that day then he/she will be marked as a half day.
· If the student is not feeling well and will be absent from the Zoom meeting or is unable to do the assigned work, make sure to send a parental note or doctor’s note through email or Remind. If you have a hard copy of the doctor’s note, simply scan it and sent it. There are many free scanning apps available for download.
Schedule:
· A general schedule will be provided to the students.
· Schedules for all Zoom Meetings will be provided to the students by their teachers. Links and specific days will be provided through Remind/ Google Classrooms.
· Schedules will not be the same as their school schedules.
· Teachers will provide due dates and timing for submission of work and activities.
· Students must pace themselves and manage their time effectively. Parents must help their child do this as it can be difficult working from home.
Grading Policy:
· Grading policy has been adjusted. Classwork and homework grades will be combined. See updated grading policy on the class Weebly.
· Third Marking Period Report Cards will be emailed on March 31st.
Substitute:
· If for any reason such as sickness, teacher is unable to host her scheduled Zoom Meeting, she will reschedule it for another day. She will keep you posted.
We understand that online learning will be a challenge in the beginning. With consistency, persistence, teacher support, and heavy parental involvement, we are sure we can not only manage but be successful. We really appreciate your support, patience, and understanding during these difficult times.
